Dirty Chai Tea

The Dirty Chai Tea cocktail is a fresh, light and spicy tasting cocktail. Great for when you’re after a boost of energy with a mix of bourbony goodness. Based on the iconic chai tea, the cocktail is infused with spices said to boost your immune system and energy levels. Can be served hot or chilled with ice.

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots of Bourbon (I prefer Makers Mark)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Bean extract
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 6 Cardamom Pods
  • Pinch of Fresh or Dried Giner
  • 2 tsp Black Tea
  • 2 tsp Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1/2 cup of Hot water

Method:

Using Loose Leaf Teapot 

  1. If using a loose leaf teapot, add the vanilla bean extract and brown sugar directly into the teapot and then add the cardamom pods, ginger, black tea, peppercorns and fennel seed into the infuser.
  2. Add boiling water to the teapot and leave to sit for 3-5 minutes depending on desired strength.
  3. Remove the infuser and stir the teapot to ensure sugar has dissolved evenly throughout beverage.
  4. Add the bourbon and cinnamon stick to a glass.
  5. Once it has cooled to the desired temperature, pour the tea into the bourbon and mix with the cinnamon stick.
  6. Add ice if required.

 

Using Mesh Ball Infuser

  1. If using a mesh ball infuser, add the cardamom pods, ginger, black tea, peppercorns and fennel seed into the mesh infuser.
  2. Add boiling water to a mug and drop the infuser into the mug. Allow to sit for 3-5 minutes depending on desired strength.
  3. Once infuser has been removed, add the vanilla bean extract and brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
  4. Add the bourbon and cinnamon stick to a glass.
  5. Once it has cooled to the desired temperature, pour the tea into the bourbon and mix with the cinnamon stick.
  6. Add ice if required.
